Mina from TWICE smiling

Hello everyone and welcome to another blog post!!!

I’ve been gone for a while now (I know, I keep forgetting that I have a blog even with my reminders), but I got inspiration to write another post about crocheting.

So, here we are!!!

I haven’t finished too many crochet projects since the pride festival because of life events and school starting up again, but I would like to show the beginning of some of the projects.

Crochet projects

  • Me holding a dark green crochet shirt cup
  • Me holding a dark green crochet shirt cup

To begin, these are the cups I made for a crochet shirt that I have not finished nor do I know where I put them after moving dorms.

The yarn I used was originally supposed to be used for a dress I was making for a wedding, but that didn’t work out the way I wanted it to. My grandma saw me making the dress and didn’t like the color of the yarn as a summer wedding color. So, she bought me a dress for the wedding to wear instead.

I had a bunch of this color yarn leftover though, so I decided to use it to make a shirt top that I could wear. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a top pattern I liked, so I tried to make a top pattern out of my own mind. Last I remember, this project was NOT turning out well and that’s part of the reason why I put it down.

Someday, when I come across that project again, I’m either going to finish it or frog the whole thing and make something else.

Either way, that yarn WILL be used up (as soon as I can find it).

Colorful crochet blanket

Next project that I was working on was a scrap yarn blanket.

After the pride festival, I had a lot of yarn leftover in colors I couldn’t foresee myself using in any future projects. I didn’t want to get rid of the yarn because I had spent too much money on the yarn and I’m not in any financial position to be giving away hobby tools like that. So, after thinking through various ideas of how to use the yarn, I decided to make a bunch of scrap yarn blankets until all the yarn ran out.

Using the granny square pattern, I planned to make each row of the granny square a different color and have each scrap yarn blanket in a different color pattern from each other. The goal was to get rid of the colors one by one and make as many blankets as possible.

This quickly became a personal challenge because I would sometimes run out of a color near the end of the row and buy another ball of yarn because I simply couldn’t change the color with the row being so close to complete. So, I would have a whole new ball of yarn with that color that would need to be used up.

Damn my completionist mindset.

Unfortunately, because of limited space in my new dorm room, this project and all that yarn had to go into a storage unit for the time being. I hope to be able to return to this project one day soon but with everything I have going on, it might become part of my long list of eventually WIPs (works in progress).

Sky blue crochet sweater

Ah yes, my sweater project.

There’s a story behind this sweater.

I wanted to make me and two of my best friends triple sweaters that we could wear together. However, making the sweaters was taking longer than expected and I quickly got tired of the repetition. So, I started working on other projects in between working on the sweaters.

What I did not expect was for this project to last into the next year (this year).

What I was also not expecting was for the number of sweaters to increase. Instead of making triple sweaters, I am now making sextuplet sweaters because that’s how many women are in my friend group.

And before anyone comes for me about not making sweaters for the men in the group, I’m already swamped with making the sweaters for my girl friends. Additionally, I’m not as close to my guy friends as I am to my girl friends. This isn’t to say that I won’t make one for my guy friends if they ask. I’m just not actively going out of my way to make one for them at this current moment.

Thankfully, the sweater project is a current WIP, so all the yarn needed is in my dorm room. Sadly, my wrist isn’t in the best shape right now and I’m having to do physical therapy for my injury. This means that I can’t crochet as much as I used to until my wrist heals.

I am still working on the sweaters though. Just with a different level of intensity to match my injury’s pace.

  • Green duck wearing red, crochet cat beanie with safety pins
  • Red, crochet cat beanie with safety pins

Last but not least, a red cat beanie my friend ordered from my Etsy.

They have been wanting to buy something for a while, but never had the money to do so. Then, out of the blue, I got a notification saying they had purchased a cat beanie from me.

Despite me going through a hard time when the order came in, I put forth a good faith effort to finish the beanie on time.

And I did.

I finished it one day before I had to send it off. The safety pins were a last minute addition because I wanted to give the beanie a bit of a flare.

Here’s where the story turns left.

Even though I finished making the beanie on time, I was not able to ship the beanie on time. Between me handling school and the hardships I’ve recently gone through, there never seemed to be enough time to package the item, print the shipping label, and drop it off at a shipping store.

Then, 3-4 days AFTER the initial ship date, I was able to mail the beanie off from a practically abandoned USPS. I was so scared to leave the package there because there was no one in the building, it was dark, and there was only one lone sign telling me to leave the package on the counter.

Thank goodness my friend got the package days later and sent me a message. At least I know that the shipping store is trustworthy!!!

Other projects I’m currently working on (or have already finished) but don’t have pictures for include a monokini, a plushie hammock, another plushie hammock (because the first one wasn’t big enough for all the plushies), and a patchwork cardigan.

I’m hoping to have more pictures and progress the next time I make a crochet post but with the way life just tried my soul, I make no promises.

Anyway, that’s a wrap on today’s post!!!

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading another one of my posts and I’ll see you in the next one!!!
